Alberto Bragaglia Biography
Alberto Bragaglia was born on 26 January 1896 in Frosinone.
He studied painting at the ateliers of Amedeo Bocchi and Umberto Boccioni. In 1920 he graduated in law and in 1923 in philosophy. He began his career teaching in state high schools, which he continued until 1966. In 1926 he married Ines Desideri, nicknamed Nessy, with whom he had two children, Francesco Maria and Leonardo.
Alberto Bragaglia was an avant-garde artist of the European twentieth century. He was a brilliant mind with an incredible speculative aesthetic imagination and an independent character. He was the author of the books "Panplastica" and "Polichromia Spaziale Astratta", but he was also a painter who used his art to develop these theories. His revolutionary works deviated from the frenetic and violent pace of Marinetti's Futurism and instead brought a different rhythm, far from the "eternal omnipresent speed".
Thanks to his closeness with Boccioni, he was able to apply his advice and appreciation, maintaining an excellent relationship with him. He experienced Futurism as an intellectual and artist within his studio, indulging in his personal innovation mixed with an intimate feeling, always seeking an avant-garde spirit in his writings and works. The Master carefully followed European cultural events, citing their protagonists in his reflections, in his sketches, in his drawings, and in his canvases. His work, fundamental for European Futurism, qualifies him and makes him a notable protagonist of the avant-garde of the early twentieth century in Italy.
His son Leonardo realizes his father's genius and promotes the publication of many articles. Alberto Bragaglia died in 1985, in Anzio, at the age of 89, leaving everything to his son Leonardo, who would continue to promote his father's artistic heritage for years until his death in 2020.
