Antonio Giulio Bragaglia Biography
Anton Giulio Bragaglia (Frosinone, 11 February 1890 – Rome, 15 July 1960) was an Italian director, film critic and essayist. In 1906 he began working as an assistant director at Cines, a Roman film company of which his father Francesco, an engineer, was general director. He thus acquired considerable technical and artistic experience, also taking advantage of the great productivity of Cines, working alongside the directors Mario Caserini and Enrico Guazzoni. Meanwhile he cultivated a family passion for archeology and worked alongside Giacomo Boni and Rodolfo Lanciani. Together with his brothers Arturo and Carlo Ludovico he dedicated himself to experimenting with innovative photographic and cinephotographic techniques, focusing above all on photodynamics, also making use of the economic contribution of the Futurist movement and in particular of Marinetti. In 1911 he published the essay Fotodinamismo futurista and in the same year he took on the role of editor-in-chief of the newspaper L'Artista, an artistic and theatrical periodical. In 1915 he reported the tragic events of the Avezzano earthquake in the Touring magazine, subsequently founding and directing La Ruota, an illustrated monthly pantheist magazine of animals, plants, skies, submerged things, buried things, mountains, waters, clouds , of fire, of stars, of light, of night, in which, among others, writers such as Gabriele D'Annunzio, Grazia Deledda, Salvatore Di Giacomo, Rudyard Kipling, Maurice Maeterlinck, Luigi Pirandello, Matilde Serao and artists such as Duilio collaborated Cambellotti, Enrico Prampolini, Aristide Sartorio.
