Amero or Amerino Cagnoni, also known as Amerigo, was an Italian painter, illustrator and designer born in Milan in 1853 and died in the same city in 1923.
After working as the director of a spinning mill in Brianza and as an administrator for a noble family from Asti, Cagnoni enrolled at the Brera Academy in Milan, where he studied painting for seven years under the guidance of the master Giuseppe Bertini.
Cagnoni distinguished himself in pastel technique and genre painting, focusing his attention above all on portraits. Together with Luigi Conconi, he was a caricaturist for several magazines, including Il Guerin Meschino, L'Illustrazione Italiana, l'Almanacco Italiano and Ars et Labor, and particularly represented the musical world of the time.
Cagnoni's works are preserved in various art galleries, such as the Gallery of Modern Art in Milan (where there are mainly small oil paintings, watercolors and some very small drawings) and the Gallery of Modern Art in Piacenza (where find Hours counted).
At the time of his death, Cagnoni was part of the commission that administered, on behalf of the municipality, the Lombardo Croci bequest in favor of needy painters and sculptors.
