Attracted from the outset by mannerist innovations rather than by the antiquing style of his first Veronese masters, he held onto this matrix even after settling in Venice. In his painting, drawing always had a central value, unlike contemporary Venetian painting. The use of color was also different, favoring a clear and lively use of color, with well-defined backgrounds.
Among the most important works are the decorations of the Doge's Palace and the Marciana Library in Venice, the frescoes inside the Palladian Villa Barbaro in Maser, the canvases depicting the Evangelical Suppers and the cycle preserved in the Church of San Sebastiano in Venice.
