Alberto Callingani Biography
Alberto Callingani (1938 - ) after completing his technical-industrial studies, began to have his first pictorial experiences in the figurative field then, from the early sixties he came into contact with the Florentine Abstraction artists with whom he participated in the collective experience the Red Sign that brought together the new generation of artists. This circle of cultural research moved in direct opposition to the system, to create new conditions in which to make art, however, without being influenced by the art market. From here was born the painting of New Reality, of which Galligani was one of the main promoters (First Manifesto of new reality painting, Galleria Numero, Florence, February 1969). In the same years the artist also frequented the Galleria Numero, managed by Fiamma Vigo, where he held his first solo exhibition in 1964. In 1965 he won a scholarship for young artists, announced by the Municipality of Florence in 1969, and was once again involved in a personal exhibition at the Galleria Numero. The seventies open with the new experience of the Studio d'Arte Il Moro that Gallingani founded with old friends: Avanzini, Pecchioli, Bini, Benelli, Filannino who were joined by Papasogli and Daniele. Among the personal and group exhibitions at Studio Il Moro, the first one is mentioned in 1974, in 1976. He began to be interested in Mail Art, so in 1978, he founded Art in Opposition, the first Italian postal art magazine. In recent years he also uses photos which are reworked by the artist with painted interventions. In the early nineties his work evolved towards the contemporaneity of languages, culminating in 2003 with the participation in the 50th Venice Biennale, Extra 50 section with the Brain Apartment project.
