Giuseppe Calvi Biography
Born in Milan on 14 January 1895. He spent his youth in Florence, where he attended the Free Academy for the study of the figure from 1912 to 1915. In 1916 he returned to Milan and, for the successes obtained at his exhibitions, he was appointed honorary member of the 'Academy of Fine Arts, in 1924. In 1928 he went to Paris and exhibited in various exhibitions. His artistic wanderings through Brittany, Normandy and Savoy date back to those years. Returning to Italy in 1940, he visited Umbria, Liguria, Mantua, Val d'Aosta, Lake Como and from these places he drew inspiration for his religious motifs and evocative landscapes. She has participated in various exhibitions: Female Portrait Exhibition in Monza, Permanente, Lombardi Watercolorists, Turin Quadrennial. In Paris he exhibited at the Salon des Vrais Independents, at the Tuileries, at the International des Arts (where he was awarded a silver medal). He held various solo shows at the Washington Palace, at the Salon de Paris-Presse, at the Vinciana in Milan in 1920, at the Galleria Grande in Milan in 1942. His works are in the collections of the knight. Tosi of Milan, by Leonida Repaci, Aldo Bresaola, etc. Calvi's painting, with its calm, measured and free brushstroke, honest, clear, with the nuanced low tones of the first manner, then moved on to the real, lively representation of the sunny and vast landscape. He successfully treated the sacred composition driven by his religious feeling.
