Ettore Canepa Biography
Ettore Canepa (1921 - 2009) Born in Spotorno, Savona, in 1921. His painting production involves, with its colors and unmistakable features, the landscape of Liguria, in the spirit of tireless research. A deep friendship united him with Bruno Marengo, which was also a cultural partnership. Canepa, in fact, inspired several of his literary works, first of all the novel "The Cathedral of Apenac", from 1994. "Apenac" is nothing other than the anagram of Canepa. It was the latter who suggested to the author the idea of a "cathedral symbol of hope, which rises on the horizon over the sea in front of Spotorno, between the islet of Bergeggi and Capo Noli". After retiring from his work as a surveyor, Canepa dedicated himself full time to his passion for painting, although he was continually interested in professional and legal issues. His paintings portray glimpses of Liguria, the profiles of the Riviera, the village of Spotorno. Suspended and immaterial houses, almost light veils on the earth, the Mediterranean sea transfigured by lights, sequences of typically Ligurian shutters. An entire series of artistic production (now very popular) is dedicated to fossils and the seabed. Works appreciated by critics and enthusiasts. In the abstraction, the recurring presence of the typical houses of the villages close to the coast.
