Vincenzo Canino, born in Naples on 2 July 1892, was a self-taught painter of landscapes and still lifes. He was also an appreciated fresco painter, as well as a restorer, so much so that he decorated churches on the island of Ischia and in Naples and restored the canvases in the Cathedral of Sorrento.
Canino was part of the group of painters who followed the masters of the Posillipo School, who dedicated themselves to painting in the open air, nomads through the countryside or the coast looking for glimpses, views, houses and churches that have now disappeared or are unrecognizable.
Temperamentally shy, he had few friends such as Ferdinando Del Basso and Gaetano di Grazia, and lived far from the city center in his home in Capodimonte, Villa delle Fate, where he could enjoy the splendid panorama that had inspired his paintings.
He died in Naples in 1978.
