Pietro Capogrosso Biography

Pietro Capogrosso (1967 - ) After meeting Luciano Fabro, the artist, who trained at the Brera Academy in Milan and later spent a considerable amount of time teaching there, began producing conceptual art. In the 1990s he established himself in the Lombardy capital in an environment dominated by abstractionism which aimed to emulate European experiences. He subsequently moved with his family to Moscow, where the more systematic approaches to his works were consolidated; compositions that move between huge and tiny formats while maintaining a connection with a hypnotic environment and a visual representation of walls consumed by layers of toneless, sometimes even dripping, color. After a trip to South Korea, the oriental mood hits him and he becomes less sober and more expressive. After his debut exhibition in 1997, the artist has exhibited in some of the most important contemporary art galleries in Italy and in other European group exhibitions, including Biennials (Venice-Bari-Moscow 2011) and Quadrennials (Turin 2004). He lives and works between Milan and Trani. The 2005 solo show "La luce nei occhi" defines Capogrosso's "border" as the result of a creative process in which multiple languages - pictorial, sculptural and architectural - precipitate, as well as an anthropological identity that arises from a Mediterranean sensitivity. Since 2015 he has taught drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
