Virgilio Carbonari Biography
Virgilio Carbonari was born on 21 March 1925 in Seriate, in the province of Bergamo. From a young age he showed a great passion for art which led him to attend the "Andrea Fantini" art school in Bergamo, where he studied at the same time as working. In 1942, he exhibited his works for the first time at the Mostra Missionaria di Seriate, where he was noticed by Betty Ambiveri, who decided to write him a letter of approval for the School of Painting at the Accademia di Carrara, in Bergamo. Here Carbonari had the opportunity to study with several painters, including Contardo Barbieri and Achille Funi, but Ambiveri was also important because he helped him practice by making the ground floor of his villa available to him.
Virgilio Carbonari's artistic production is mainly characterized by the painting of frescoes, watercolors, landscapes, views of his hometown, flowers and still lifes. But not only. Carbonari, in fact, also had a great passion for music and, gifted with a beautiful baritone voice, he decided to enroll at the Scala Music School in Milan. Here, he had the opportunity to study with several renowned tenors, including Alessandro Dolci and Giuseppe Cesati. Carbonari performed from 1950 to 1984 at the Donizetti Theater in Bergamo and at the Carlo Felice Theater in Genoa, also collaborating with the Teatro della Scala in Milan and making himself known in important international theatres. Between 1960 and 1971, he sang in 13 different operas at the Verona Arena, confirming his great passion for music.
His vocal talent is also demonstrated by the recording of a record in 1987 and the recording of twenty complete works. Carbonari loved and lived for art and music, which he continued to cultivate in the following years, until his death, which occurred peacefully in his home in Seriate, on 5 December 2000.
