Gino Carrera Biography
Gino Carrera was born in 1923 in Casalpusterlengo, where he attended the local School of Arts and Crafts. Subsequently, he decided to move to Milan to attend free courses at the Brera Academy. Starting in 1952, he began to participate in exhibitions and artistic events in the Milanese scene and, for some years, he was one of the protagonists of the city's figurative culture.
Unfortunately, due to health problems, Carrera had to withdraw from the Milanese artistic environment and moved to the S. Michele hill in Caprino Veronese. Here, he continued to engage in artistic experimentation, carrying forward one of the most secluded and silent events in Italian art.
Despite his secluded life, Carrera was an active protagonist of the contemporary art scene, participating in numerous exhibitions and events. In particular, the artist was very renowned among engraving enthusiasts, an operational field that brought him important critical acclaim and recognition.
Carrera has always been very close to his hometown and to the "Amici della Grafica" group of the Pro Loco Cittadina. Precisely because of this constant closeness, the Group has decided to dedicate an important competition to him, the "National Competition for young emerging engravers", which takes place in Casalpusterlengo every two years and rewards the works of the most talented students of the most famous Italian fine arts academies . Gino Carrera passed away in 2005, leaving behind an important artistic and cultural legacy.
