Cesare Maria Casati Biography
Cesare Maria Casati was born in Milan in 1936. A pupil of Gio Ponti, he called him to be part of the editorial staff of Domus in the 1960s. Director of the magazine from July 1976 to June 1979. Casati has been a member of the Association for Industrial Design (ADI) since 1967. From January 1981 to June 1985 he was director of "La Mia Casa" (Peruzzo Editore). In February 1986 he founded the publishing house l'Arca Edizioni in Milan and became editor-in-chief of the international architecture, design and visual communication magazine l'Arca. In 1995 he became editor-in-chief of l'Arca International.
Since 1999 Casati has collaborated with various academic institutions, such as the Brera Academy in Milan and the Valle Giulia Faculty of Architecture in Rome. He has organized exhibitions, installations and conferences around the world, particularly in the field of Italian design and architecture. He conceived and coordinated four art and design exhibitions called "Eurodomus" (Genoa 1966; Turin 1967; Milan 1970; Turin 1971).
Casati is known for his passion for meaningful and poetic projects that combine architecture, design, environment, context and emotion without trivializing them. He has been part of the juries in various competitions, prizes and events, including the Macef Design Competition in Milan, the PRINT Competition at La Maison de Marie Claire in Paris, the SMAU High Fidelity Award, the Piastrella d'Oro Award, the Trieste Award 83, ADI/Schindler Competition "Risalire la città", International Architecture Award in Carrara 1990, IRITECNA Award for Europe in Rome 1991.
He was also president of the jury of the "Un vaso di terracotta" competition in 1992, of the CAAB competition in Bologna in 1994, of the SMAU award in 1998, of the ENI competition for the Palazzo dell'EUR in Rome, of the European competition for the Ancona-Falconara Airport Terminal in 1999. He was also president of the jury of the "Luminous Sign" competition in Milan in 1999, of the competition for the Piedmont Region Palace in 2000 and of the "IMAGE AND EMOTION" Auchan. competition in 2001. In 2001 he chaired the competition for the monument to the victims of the Libyan Airlines flight in Tripoli. He also received the Dedalo Minosse Prize in May 2001 and May 2002.
