Enrico Cavalli was an Italian painter born on 5 November 1849 in Santa Maria Maggiore, Verbania, son of the painter Carlo Giuseppe.
In 1855, his family moved to Lyon in France, where Henry enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts.
He subsequently moved to Paris and then to Marseille, where he frequented the painter Adolphe Monticelli, whose teachings would greatly influence him in his art.
His pictorial output from this period is unknown, but two portraits of Cavalli were accepted at the Paris Salon of 1881 and highly regarded.
The family returns to Santa Maria Maggiore, where Carlo Giuseppe and Enrico will teach at the local Rossetti Valentini art school from 1881 until 1892. During this period, Enrico stimulated and involved his students in the study of the great masters, involving them in the practice en plein air.
In 1917, thanks to the support of some notables of Santa Maria Maggiore, Cavalli was assigned a professorship at the Rossetti Valentini school.
Enrico Cavalli died on 29 February 1919 in Santa Maria Maggiore, Verbania.
