Francesco Antonio Cicalese, born in Naples in 1642, was an Italian painter, mainly known for his still lifes. He studied with Luca Forte, but we have little biographical information about him.

Francesco Antonio Cicalese, born in Naples in 1642, was an Italian painter, mainly known for his still lifes. He studied with Luca Forte, but we have little biographical information about him.
One of his first works is a still life of fruit and flowers dated 1657. Two ovals then appeared in the Calogero collection in Naples, dated 1642 and signed by Cicalese, in which the relationship with Luca Forte's work is evident in terms of use of Caravaggio's light and shaping of the support surface.
In the last years of his career, the painter also dedicated himself to other genres, as demonstrated by a canvas depicting Saint Anthony of Padua in glory, dated and signed in 1685 and preserved in Naples at the church of San Severo alla Sanità.
Francesco Antonio Cicalese died in 1685.
