Domenico Colanzi Biography

Domenico Colanzi (1944 - ), was born in Archi (Chieti) in 1944. Playing on the contrasts between empty and full, light and dark, light and shadow, smooth and rough, his sculptures silently tell the simplicity of everyday life, all contained in poetics of titles; Awakenings, Confidences, Conversations, Expectations, apparent abstractions attributable to an absolute and timeless reality. The protagonist of this story is the woman, mother, Venus, lover, source of energy, origin of life, as the shape that characterizes her suggests. Those modeled by Colanzi are female figures lying down, or about to get up, caught waking up, or simulating a maternal conversation. A story that captures minimal gestural differences, individual pauses in movement capable of simulating reflections and concentration. Participating in this awakening of nature, animals such as the bull, the horse, the lion, the cat, or the goat, the rooster, the rhinoceros and the bear find themselves in freedom in an imaginary park, on which tradition and renewal converge , Picassian and futuristic memories. Human and animal forms chosen by Colanzi as treasure chests of that vital breath that matter allows him to vivify. Thanks to bronze, the material he most used, he achieved greater freedom of expression.
