Corrado Corradi Dall'acqua Biography
Corrado Corradi Dell'Acqua was born in Milan in 1905, and became a jurist and an amateur writer. However, later, he developed a passion for drawing and design, without reserving particular emphasis on this activity. Corradi had a dachshund named Azucena, so I deduced that he was fond of Giuseppe Verdi's operas, so he chose to name her just like the gypsy protagonist of one of his musical works. In 1947, Corradi founded a design company together with two other Milanese intellectuals: his childhood friend Ignazio Gardella, also labeled as one of the symbolic architects of post-war reconstruction, and Luigi Caccia Dominioni. This enterprise took the name of Corradi's company, namely Azucena. Before launching his company, Corradi had already participated in the Triennale di Milano competition in 1933, presenting bookends in black nickel and copper, and then again in 1939, exhibiting a tea service in silver and gilded copper wrapped in the coils of a snake . His lack of outward evidence combined with the complexity of his projects, such as creating lamps out of glass from Milan trams or leather furniture, led to the only possible conclusion: Corradi was a very modest man, who dedicated his life to design without making noise. His particular interest in the design of living spaces led him to create objects that responded to the needs of users, such as saddle-shaped armchairs or sofas for intimate chats. He also designed an object that had been particularly relevant for the Banca Popolare headquarters in Piazza Meda, namely a marble ashtray with pestle that had been used to put out cigarettes. Finally, Corradi has designed furniture such as the Garitta wardrobe and the Brangania liquor cabinet, offering a global service on furniture to be placed in your home.
