Giuseppe Cosenza, born in Luzzi on 17 September 1846 and died in New York in 1922, was an Italian painter. He was orphaned as a child, for this reason, he was raised by his grandmother who placed him in various artisan workshops but Giuseppe, instead of learning the craft, dedicated himself to drawing. Fate led the painter Giovanni Santoro to meet the talented Cosenza, and he decided to train him. The apprenticeship continued in various places until Cosenza settled in Naples where he attended the city's art schools to broaden his knowledge in painting, music and literature. Cosenza painted sacred and profane canvases for various churches, palaces and wealthy owners. In 1873 Locrapelle summoned him to Paris to decorate a sumptuous palace and to paint in the church of Santa Dorotea. In 1875 Cosenza was invited to London where he took part in an art exhibition and painted frescoes in the Catholic Church of Misericordia. In 1906, the Italian Government awarded him the Commandery of the Crown of Italy. In 1908 the painter lost his sight due to glaucoma and died in 1922 in New York.
