Giancarlo Croce Biography

Giancarlo Croce (1945 - ) works in Calcata, in the province of Viterbo and teaches pictorial disciplines at the State Art Institute of Civitavecchia. He has worked with different means, using those that interest him most for what he wants to do in that circumstance and communicate using them in an experimental and provocative sense. In the series "Incandescences" or "Television Tampering" or "Photographic Constructions" are of a technological nature. They are manuals, transmitted through painting, for the large murals executed at Porta Portese in 1974 or in his "Anamorphoses". His production consists of direct images, neither descriptive nor evocative but rather activators of magical or mental thought. He was in fact very fascinated by the orientalist poetics gravitating around the "Nuovi Nuovi" movement. Each of his images is unrepeatable, driven by a personal satisfaction that is the calibration of a magical image, both of manual skill and manipulation. An image in the sense of an intimate excavation, watermarking the present on a past of anthropological breadth and therefore of collective imagination.
