Giuseppe Croff was born in Milan in 1810. He attended the Brera Academy where his teacher was Pompeo Marchesi, who strongly influenced Croff's style towards neoclassicism. In his early years, in 1837, he began working in the Fabbrica del Duomo of Milan, where, initially, he created ten statuettes and two large statues of saints: San Francesco de Sales and San Pietro Nolasco. The most important works were the other two marble statues sculpted for the cathedral: Saint John of God and Saint Second Martyr. Subsequently, he exhibited numerous works at the Brera annuals.
Croff was also a decorator, working at the theater in Como and decorating his residence in Torno on Lake Como with busts and medallions. Many of these works were destroyed or dispersed following the change of ownership of the villas.
Giuseppe Croff died in Torno (Como) on 20 November 1869.
