Luigi Crosio was an Italian painter and engraver, born in Acqui Terme (Alessandria) in 1835 and died in Turin in 1915. He dedicated himself with great passion to studies at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts. His pictorial style, which fit perfectly in the romantic movement, it is characterized by the reproduction of moments of ancient life such as Pompeii, Rome or the Egypt of the Pharaohs, interpreted with a great sentimental attachment. The characters, represented with great care, are placed in settings of the time reproduced with an antiquarian interest that recalls the era of the Grand Tour. His skill as a portraitist allowed him to best depict the characters, even in the most complex scenes and in historical settings of the seventeenth or eighteenth century. Furthermore, his great attention to the art of engraving and lithography, in which he specialized, allowed him to carry out commissioned work for book illustrations and images with great success. Luigi Crosio died in Turin in 1915.
