Gregorio Marco De Artwork valuations, appraisals and auction estimates

Marco De Gregorio was born in Resina in 1829. After having exhibited at the Bourbon Exhibition of 1848, he enrolled at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts in Naples where he had Camillo Guerra as his teacher.
He began his career with portraits of a biblical and historical nature, as demonstrated by the works exhibited at the Bourbon exhibitions, including "Moses defending the Jewish damsels" (1851), "Galileo Galilei" and "Portrait of an army officer in large uniform" (1859) which earned him the silver medal.
In 1860 he participated in Garibaldi's enterprise fighting on the Volturno, together with Michele Tedesco and Francesco Lojacono. Read the full biography

Gregorio Marco De Biography

Marco De Gregorio was born in Resina in 1829. After having exhibited at the Bourbon Exhibition of 1848, he enrolled at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts in Naples where he had Camillo Guerra as his teacher.
He began his career with portraits of a biblical and historical nature, as demonstrated by the works exhibited at the Bourbon exhibitions, including "Moses defending the Jewish damsels" (1851), "Galileo Galilei" and "Portrait of an army officer in large uniform" (1859) which earned him the silver medal.
In 1860 he participated in Garibaldi's enterprise fighting on the Volturno, together with Michele Tedesco and Francesco Lojacono. After the unification of Italy, he founded an art school in Resina with Federico Rossano.
From 1862 to 1876 he regularly participated in the Promoter's exhibitions, exhibiting works such as "A volunteer after the war of 1859" (1862), "Aspromonte" and "The harvest" (1863), "The end of a man of principles" and " The Worker and the Seducer" (1864) and "Children's Nurseries" (1866).
In 1868 he moved to Egypt on behalf of the viceroy and painted the curtain of the Cairo theater. He subsequently settled in Florence and Paris where he met the merchant Luigi Pisani and worked for Goupil producing orientalist paintings based on photos and sketches made in Egypt.
He participated in the Vienna Exhibition of 1873 and collaborated with the other Resina painters on the "Artistic Journal" founded by Adriano Cecioni.
Marco De Gregorio's last public appearances were in 1873 and 1875 on the occasion of the Neapolitan Promotrice. He died in Naples in 1876
