Giulio Durini Biography

Giulio Durini is an Italian painter born in Monza in 1966. Belonging to the family of the Durini counts of Monza, one of the oldest families in Lombardy, he has been the president of the Durini Foundation since 2001. The foundation is located in the Durini palace, built in the eighteenth century, and was founded in 1939 by Antonio Durini, son of the painter Giulio Durini, an important figure of Milanese artistic culture of the 19th century.
In addition to being president of the foundation, Giulio Durini is also the official portraitist of the Senate of the Republic. He argues that Italian contemporary art is not valued enough at a national level, but finds appreciation abroad, due to the cultural provinciality of the country.
Durini has exhibited in the most important art galleries in Italy and abroad. In 1996 he exhibited at the Institut de France in Paris and in 1998 at the Spazio Consolo in Milan, within the exhibition "The new portrait in Italy", curated by Alessandro Riva. In 1999 he was present at Palazzo Sarcinelli for the collective exhibition "On Painting". In 2001, he participated in the "Cairo Communication Award" and the following year he was present in the collective "The dark side of literature" in conjunction with the Mantua Literature Festival. In 2007 he was present at a collective exhibition at the Shanghai Art Museum.
Giulio Durini is considered one of the most important contemporary Italian painters and recognized worldwide for the quality and plastic realism of the subjects in his canvases. In 1988 he won the Andy Warhol Scholarship at the New York Academy of Art, founded by Warhol himself.
