Guomundur Guomundsson, who later took the pseudonym Erró, was born in Olafsvik (Iceland) in 1932.
From the age of ten, he was fascinated by the works of art reproduced in a catalog of the Museum of Modern Art in New York: painting became his great passion. He studied art (1949-1956) in Reykjavik, then in Oslo and in Italy (Florence and Ravenna).
In 1958, the young artist moved to Paris, where he met artists and writers linked to the surrealist movement, such as Breton, Roberto Matta, Victor Brauner, André Masson, Max Ernst, Man Ray, Joan Miró and Duchamp.
