Franco Fabiano Biography

Franco Fabiano (1933 - 2005) was an artist who, born in 1933, trained as a self-taught artist, starting with the figurative and then moving on to abstractionism and the structural and perceptive construction of the work. Active in the 1960s and 1970s, between Milan and Brescia, he also combined art with writing which led him to sensitively develop various books of poetry. He is an original protagonist of twentieth-century Italian painting, but due to his solitary and shy character, although he did not rank among the apocalyptics, he was not even integrated. A solitary figure, Fabiano, therefore, is nevertheless an extraordinary case of a painter who produced excellent paintings in his beloved solitude, and who, despite having had excellent opportunities to frequent and exhibit in 1965 with Castellani, Bonalumi, Simeti, Alviani, then retreated almost completely into himself, also abandoning Milan and giving up many opportunities for meetings, acquaintances and exhibitions. The Sixties were, however, fervent for him with predominantly monochrome works that created original spaces of light in a very rigorous two-dimensional reference. Franco Fabiano therefore chose the monochromatic solution in his research, achieving clarity and simplicity of sign and absolute colour, creating predominantly White, but also Silver, Light Blue, Red, Blue, or Green, Ultramarine Blue, Mars Brown, overcoming the limits traditional elements of the painting also through the use of new materials such as PVC and biplastic on canvas, wood or rubber on plaster, in which the serial repetition of the rhythmic composition of the reliefs creates plays of shadows and lights which marks the time, the rhythm and space.
