Arturo Faldi Biography

Arturo Faldi was born on 27 July 1856 in Florence. Thanks to the help of his parents, Davide Faldi and Guglielmina Fontebuoni, he had the opportunity to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. Here he had Cordigiani and Muzzioli as teachers, who offered him his first artistic training.
But it was the teaching of another master, Ussi, that had a significant impact on the artist's career. Ussi introduced him to the historical genre and biblical representations, a theme that Faldi developed with great passion.
In 1878, he presented some of his works at an exhibition organized by the Brera Academy in Milan. With “La trecciaiuola”, Faldi distanced himself from his initial production of historical works and began to dedicate himself to painting landscapes and views, especially of the Tuscan countryside. He used the technique of drawing en plein air, working outdoors, outside the studio.
He participated in several exhibitions, such as the Bologna Fine Arts Exhibition in 1888 and that of London. His paintings focused on peasant life and the Tuscan landscape.
In the last years of his life he moved to Porto Venere, where he continued to paint and be inspired by the surrounding landscape. He died in Florence on 30 May 1911.
