Alexandre Fassianos Biography

Alexandre Fassianos (1935 - 2022), born in Athens, Alekos “Alexandre” Fassianos studied at the School of Fine Arts from 1956 to 1960. He obtained a scholarship from the French government and settled in Paris (1960-1963). He studied lithographic technique at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He then meets important artists and writers. Back in Greece, he works for several Greek newspapers. His first solo exhibitions take place in Athens. In 1966 the artist achieved his first real success during an exhibition at the Facchetti Gallery in New York. He moved permanently to Paris when the dictatorship arose in Greece in 1967. He exhibited his works in Paris (Iolas Gallery) then little by little throughout the world and beyond (Tokyo, New York, Stockholm, Malmô, São Polo and Venice, etc). France remains his second home. Fassianos' characters express a single vision of the world: the Mediterranean. His nudes present themselves as the most innocent and pure element that nature can offer. He likes to draw inspiration from living elements: sun, earth; sea and fire carefully organized, perfectly balanced. Ocher and blue alternate to define spaces of freedom. Fassianos' graphic work (engravings and lithographs) is notable. He was also responsible for many illustrated books now treasured by collectors. His art is characterized by a clever mix of ancient art and modernism.
