Domenico Fiasella, nicknamed Sarzana by virtue of his hometown, was born on 12 August 1589. Even as a child he demonstrated that he possessed a particular predisposition for painting, working in his father's atelier and committing himself to reproducing Andrea's paintings as best as possible Del Sarto. He was one of the main exponents of the Genoese baroque school. He soon moved to Rome, where he had the opportunity to directly admire the works of artists of the caliber of Raphael, Michelangelo and Titian. He then returned to Sarzana in 1617.
Fiasella favored light-shadow effects, creating contrasts and chromatic densities. It is placed in the Caravaggio artistic current with regards to naturalism and in the classicist current inspired by the works of Reni. He died in Genoa on 19 October 1669.
