Pietro Fortuna Biography
Pietro Fortuna was born in 1950, studied architecture and philosophy and while still very young he collaborated on important scenic creations for the San Carlo in Naples, La Scala in Milan and the Fenice in Venice. In 1977 his first solo exhibition was held at the Cannaviello gallery in Rome, then he was present in Milan from '78 to '83 with other solo exhibitions by Luigi De Ambrogi, Luciano Inga-Pin and Massimo Minini, then with his first solo exhibition in New York by Serra and Di Felice. In the following years he exhibited at the XVI Biennale of San Paolo, at the Pinacoteca Comunale of Ravenna with “Italiana: nuova imagine” curated by Achille Bonito Oliva, and at the Galleria Comunale d’Arte Moderna of Bologna with “Anni '80” curated by Renato Barilli, then at the Gallery of Modern Art of San Marino and at the XII Biennial of Paris. In the 90s he created new cycles of works with installations and large-format works with which he was present in "Cadenze" curated by Pier Giovanni Castagnoli at the Museum of Modern Art in Caracas, at the Palais de Glace in Buenos Aires and at the Museo d 'Modern Art of Bogota. He also exhibits at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna di S.Marino with “Italia-America, l'abstrazione redefined” curated by Demetrio Paparoni, then at the Pecci museum in Prato in “Randevous des amies” curated by Bruno Corà and “Lavori in course” at the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art and of Rome. From the same period, among the various solo exhibitions, we remember the exhibitions at Hanna Feldman in Zurich, at the Nuova Pesa in Rome and at Le Carré Musée Bonnat, Bayonne. In 1996, as an emanation of his theories on the idea of community, he founded "Opera Paese", a place where important figures of art, music and thought meet, from Philip Glass to Jan Fabre, from Pistoletto to Carlo Sini, from Kounellis to Gija Kancheli. From 2000 to 2007 he followed many solo exhibitions including those at the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo in Todi, at Nuova Pesa, at the Stefania Miscetti studio and at the Giacomo Guidi gallery in Rome. He also exhibits at "Matema" at the Watertoren Center for Contemporary Art in Vlissingen, at "Exempla II, Italian art in the European story 1960-2000" curated by Bruno Corà, at the Pinacoteca Civica of Teramo and again at the CAMEC-Centro per l'Arte Modern and Contemporary of La Spezia with “Enclave 1”, then in 2006 at the “XII International Sculpture Biennial” of Carrara.
