Maurizio Galimberti Biography

Maurizio Galimberti (Como 1956) While attending the institute for surveyors, he developed an early passion for photography and took part in numerous competitions. At the beginning he uses analogue film, but soon switches to polaroids, to immediately see the result of his shot without waiting. The choice of Polaroid proved to be the right one, because instant film produces magical colours. In the early 1990s Galimberti abandoned the family's construction company to dedicate himself exclusively to photography. In 1991 he began collaborating with Polaroid, becoming its official spokesperson. In 1995 the volume Polaroid Pro Art was published and in 1997 his Polaroid mosaics entered the world of art collecting. Galimberti's technique, which is influenced by Boccioni and Duchamp, consists in making a collage of each of the Polaroids. which reproduces a different detail of the image to be portrayed. Thanks to this particular technique, Galimberti reached first place in the ranking of Italian photo-portraitists of the magazine Class and participated as a portraitist in various editions of the Venice Film Festival, immortalizing film stars, such as Johnny Depp. Some important companies (Fiat, Caffé Illy, Lancia, Nokia) also commissioned works from him. The meeting with the Fumagalli art collectors represents the turning point, because thanks to them Galimberti began to work on volumes on world cities such as Venice, Berlin and New York.
