Marcolino Gandini Biography
Turin, 1937. Painter, draftsman, engraver. He frequented Felice Casorati's studio at a very young age. At the end of the 1950s he participated in youth exhibitions in the Turin scene, making his debut with his first solo exhibition in 1958 at Palazzo Chiablese, on the occasion of a university event. In 1962 he exhibited at the Galleria Numero in Rome. After the 1960s he participated in abstractionist exhibitions in Verona, Turin, Foggia and Rome. The solo exhibitions continued throughout the Seventies and Eighties, accompanied by the texts of the most illustrious Italian critics. The exhaustive anthology held in the monumental complex of San Michele a Ripa dates back to 1991. His solo exhibition at the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna in Turin dates back to 1995. After an initial phase of activity in the Turin area, in 1963 the artist moved to Rome. In 1968 he began to frequent Venice; operates between Turin, Rome and Venice. He took part in Rome in the climate of the Sixties, exhibiting with Pascali, Ceroli, Kounellis and others. The cornerstone around which all his artistic production revolves is the geometric structuring of the surface, which leads him to engage with the story of European geometric abstraction. His compositions often take on an architectural value, physically taking place in space, "defining themselves chromatically according to tight sequences of gradations and tonal chords" (CF Carli).
