Jeremy Geddes Biography
Jeremy Gaddes was born in Wellington, New Zealand, in 1974, famous for his works that mix surrealism with hyperrealism.
Author of photorealistic paintings, Jeremy Geddes' works seem to tell postmodern stories of sidereal solitudes and alienation, set in deserted and crumbling metropolises. His paintings stand out for the accuracy of his brushstrokes and the color palette used, which creates disorientation in the viewer. His figures, which often defy the laws of gravity, are accompanied by symbolic elements.
His creative process is very disciplined and always begins with a small-scale preliminary study, in which he visualizes and refines the initial image, adding or removing elements. According to the artist himself, this process is long, it can take weeks or months, but it is indispensable, because it is a step that avoids paying a high price during the creation of the final work.
Jeremy Geddes, is inspired by great artistic references of the 20th century such as Antonio López, Andrew Wyeth or Edward Hopper but also by other great painters of the 19th century such as Léon Bonnat or William Bouguereau.
Today he lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.
