Giacomo Ginotti Biography

Giacomo Ginotti (1845 -1897) was a highly successful Italian sculptor in Europe during the 1880s. After emigrating to France as a young man, he decided to return to Italy to study at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, excelling among his fellow students and winning numerous prizes.

In 1877 he opened his studio and thanks to the work "La schiava", he obtained the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1878. This work was later purchased by King Vittorio Emanuele II.
Returning to Turin in 1886, he created the monumental fountain of the Martini and Rossi Palace and became a member of the Albertina Academy in 1887. His most extraordinary work, "La Petroleuse", dates back to the same year and, thanks to its modernity, is among the most famous of the period.
