Marco Grassi Biography
Marco Grassi was born in Milan in 1966, currently resides and works in Lugano, Switzerland. Since his beginnings, Grassi has developed a particular style, focused on identity and the female figure, the main motif of his works. His female portraits are intense and aim to attract the viewer, through a silent dialogue between the subject and the audience.
Grassi's works are characterized by a union between pure decoration and hyper-realistic colors, a mixture that makes his creations truly surprising. In the early works, the distinctive element of Grassi's styles and technique were the decisive brushstrokes, which outlined the anatomical forms of his subjects, contrasting with the bold colors and mixed with a palette knife to flake and make them thinner.
In more recent works, however, the human figure is less delineated, while the background becomes more decisive and reflects the subject's facial expressions. Grassi focuses on the intensity of silence, creating a complicity with the observer.
Marco Grassi's works have been exhibited in numerous personal and collective exhibitions, as well as having taken part in international fairs such as Art Basel, SCOPE Basel and Mosca Art Fair. In 2011, he was selected to be present at the inauguration of the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.
