F. (xx Sec.) Greco Biography
Francesco Greco is an engraver born in 1953 in Siderno, in the province of Reggio Calabria. He attended the State Art High School in his hometown, where he began his artistic studies. In 1973 he moved to Milan to study at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts.
After his first performance at the Brera 1971/1977 exhibition, he participated in various editions of the Milan Engraving Triennial and the Biella Engraving Triennale. He has exhibited in several group exhibitions at the Galleria delle Ore, and has held solo exhibitions at Palazzo Sormani and Chiasso.
During the 1980s, he taught at the Liceo Artistico of the municipality of Milan, dedicating ever greater attention to his work as an engraver. He collaborated with Roberto Sanesi and created illustrated books, including Attorno a Object Variables (Milan, Sibilo Edizioni, 1983) and Alterego considers space (Milan, Upiglio, 1987).
His works were exhibited in the 1994 exhibition The Italian Artists' Books of the Twentieth Century at MoMA in New York. He has collaborated with Osvaldo Patani, Vincenzo Guarracino, J. Pierre Jouvet and has created collective editions of the texts of Gottfried Benn and Gian Franco Grechi.
Francesco Greco was one of the well-known Italian engravers of the twentieth century. His career was characterized by his attention to the technique of engraving and his constant artistic research.
