Pietro Francesco Guala was born in Casale Monferrato in 1698 and became one of the protagonists of Casale's figurative culture in the first half of the eighteenth century. His artistic ability ranges across different genres and techniques such as oil painting and fresco. He dedicates his talent to works commissioned by both religious and lay people, always linked to the territory of origin but in a broader cultural context.
Among his most important works are included "Jacob's Ladder" in the Church of Balzola (1722), "The Defeat of the Albigensians" in the Church of San Domenico in Casale Monferrato (1724), the series of Apostles and Prophets for the Church of Santo Stefano and the Sant'Evasio of the Casale Cathedral.
Furthermore, Guala tries his hand at the fresco technique in many noble palaces in Casale Monferrato and its surroundings, including Palazzo Sannazzaro, Palazzo Treville, Castello di Giarole, and Castello di Camino.
Guala does not limit his production to works in the Casale Monferrato area, but carries out important commissions in the Vercelli area, in the Turin area, and also in the Milan area, where he died in 1757.
