Rowland Holyoake (probably born between 1855 and 1860), was the son of William Holyoake (1834-1894), a Birmingham genre painter who exhibited frequently at the Royal Society of British Artists. Rowland Holyoake (probably born between 1855 and 1860), was the son of William Holyoake (1834-1894), a Birmingham genre painter who exhibited frequently at the Royal Society of British Artists. Under Whistler's presidency, William Holyoake was briefly vice-president of the Royal Society of British Artists and was appointed curator of one of the Academy's schools. The National Gallery in Glasgow holds several of his works, such as Front Row of the Opera and another of his paintings, The Sanctuary is located in the Chapels of Westminster Abbey. Rowland continued in the tradition of his father's Victorian genre, but also painted landscapes, portraits, and interiors.
