Giorgio Kienerk Biography
Giorgio Kienerk was a famous Italian artist, born in Florence on 5 May 1869 and active both as a painter and as a sculptor, graphic designer and illustrator. His first exhibition took place in 1886 at the Promotrice di Belle Arti in Florence, where he presented two sculptures.
In 1890 Kienerk spent the summer in Mugello, where he created numerous portraits and landscapes, including the specimens of San Piero a Sieve, which today are part of a private collection. Precisely in this period he underwent a post-impressionist turning point which led him to become increasingly interested in plein air painting. Since the 1990s, Kienerk has also dedicated himself to making pastels, especially for illustrations. In 1895 he was appointed honorary member of the Royal Academy of Brera as a sculptor, and in Florence he was part of the jury of the Promoter, responsible for awarding the prizes.
In the following years Kienerk concentrated more on teaching rather than artistic production and, despite continuous participation in Italian and foreign exhibitions, he no longer experimented with new linguistic developments. The famous artist died on 15 February 1948 at his home in Poggio alla Farnia in Fauglia, where he moved with his family in 1943.
