Masataka Kubota Biography
Masataka Kubota was born in Osaka in 1945. After studying at the Tokyo State University of Fine Arts, he deepened his studies during a two-year specialization course. An interest in Italian figurative painting led him to Florence, where he continued to study following the academic program and using traditional figure and motifs as a basis for learning the craft. It began autonomous production in 1979.
In 1985, Kubota settled in Milan, then moved to Bergamo. He continued to study, and in addition to his knowledge of the classical heritage, both Japanese and Italian, he began to come into contact with contemporary artistic movements. Initially, his paintings presented stretched surfaces with free and organic development, almost like abstract landscapes. In fact, in the early nineties, his painting evolved to become more complex and mature.
His educational path was enriched by his double cultural origin. On the roots of the Far East, which he understands above all as mentality and sensitivity, he has grafted the artistic experience of the West, especially with regard to information and current cultural updating.
Currently, Kubota lives and works in Osaka, Japan and is considered an important figure in Japanese and international art.
