Ladislas Kijno(1921-2012), born in Warsaw in 1921, was a naturalized French artist. Before taking up painting in 1949, he dedicated himself to the study of philosophy.
His painting focuses on the theme of the sacred and magical resonance, favoring curved rhythms that become increasingly abstract. This leads him to a particular investigation of natural elements and their morphological versatility, such as pebbles. His is a sober palette that is expressed in the use of glycerophthalic paints, with an airbrush and comb dipped in ink.
Over the years he participated in countless exhibitions in France and in the central hall of the French pavilion of the 1980 Venice Biennale he exhibited thirty canvases entitled Théâtre de Neruda, in which the transition from the stretched canvas to the rippled one is visible.
Parallel to his practice in painting, he experimented with sculpture, printmaking, wrote texts, composed designs for carpets and tapestries, and created, among other monumental works, mosaics integrated with architectural forms.
