Julio Le Parc Biography
(Mendoza, 1928). In 1942 he moved, together with his family, to Buenos Aires. In 1943 he enrolled at the Prilidiano Pueyrredón National School of Fine Arts, only to abandon it the following year. In the meantime, he was able to observe the murals that Antonio Berni, Juan Carlos Castagnino, Manuel Colmeiro Guimarás, Lino Enea Spilimbergo and Demetrio Urruchúa created for the Pacífico Galleries, in the center of the city. The very location of the murals, their strong degree of exposure, made him reflect on the importance and role of the user of art. Le Parc, in his work, makes extensive use of plastic elements that surprise and fascinate the viewer's gaze , so as to wrap the latter in a sort of casing. To this end, Le Parc uses artificial lighting, reflections and moving materials and other spectacular effects: mechanical bands moved by hidden devices, the flow of phosphorescent liquids, nylon threads. His sculptures are, in some cases, genuine installations that envelop the viewer.
