Alessandro Longhi (Venice, 12 June 1733 – Venice, 1813) was an Italian painter and engraver, son of the painter Pietro Longhi. After receiving the first rudiments of art from his father, he worked as an apprentice under Giuseppe Nogari. He became an established artist after 1757-8, when he presented his first exhibition of paintings. He is particularly known for the numerous paintings he produced for the Pisani family, among which is The Family of the Procurator Luigi Pisani. Although he received his first teachings from his father Pietro, he did not follow his style, but that of his second teacher Nogari. Like Sebastiano Bombelli, he used to paint high-ranking Venetian officials in official clothes, in which he underlined their social status by highlighting their showy wigs and refined robes.
