Lot 315
It is up to Piero Torriti (report of January 20, 2007) have identified, in the character portrayed here, the Doge Alvise Mocenigo IV ascended the ducal office in 1763 and remained there until 1778. The identification is based on a comparison with another portrait kept at Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice, attributed to Alessandro Longhi in accordance with a known archival Academy of Venetian painting that signals how, in 1767, had been lent to Longhi a portrait of the former Doge Marco Foscarini, the work of Fortunato Pasquetti for use it as a model of what he made of the Doge Mocenigo: the two works should have been the fact pedant in academic halls. It would therefore, according Torriti, the final version of the portrait, carried out simultaneously to the Academy Galleries version so that it would become sort of study of the draft or true.
