Michele Lostia Biography
Michele Lostia was born in Rome in 1964 and began his artistic career in 1996 with a solo exhibition at the prestigious Ca' d'Oro Gallery in Rome. Subsequently, he exhibited in many galleries and public spaces, including the San Giorgio Gallery in Naples in 2000, the Politeama Gallery in Naples in 2001, the Art Process Gallery in Paris in 2002, the Palazzo della Provincia in Rome in 2006, the Complesso Monumentale del Vittoriano in Rome in 2006, the Polytechnic of Milan in 2006, the Bait Muzna Gallery in Muscat, Oman in 2006 and the Galleria Il Cortile in Rome in 2006.
In 2007 he held a personal exhibition at the Pio Monti Gallery in Rome entitled “Dinamo Spaziale”, curated by Achille Bonito Oliva, which marked the beginning of his work linked to the world of light and flight. He has exhibited several times at the Electronic Art Cafè in Piazza Farnese in Rome curated by Achille Bonito Oliva and Umberto Scrocca and in 2009 he exhibited an exhibition entitled "Spacial Dinamics" at the Salwa Al Sabah Hall in Kuwait City, Kuwait, again curated by Bonito Oliva.
He also exhibited at the Ninni Esposito gallery in Bari curated by Bonito Oliva in 2009 and in other exhibitions, such as at the MAN Museum in Nuoro in 2010 with the exhibition "In the Middle" and with the screening of his video "Spacial Dinamics" at Palazzo Reale di Milano in the Stone City exhibition in 2012, curated by Umberto Scrocca.
In his adolescence, Lostia had the opportunity to closely observe renowned artists such as Burri, Tano Festa, Kunellis, Paladino and Clemente, but he also showed interest in the art of Richard Serra, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd and James Turrell.
Lostia worked with different materials, first using copper and zinc, oxidized to bear witness to the passage of time, and focusing on a concept of balance that materials and shapes take on in their daily transformation. He explored lead and iron, passing through plastic materials such as plexiglass and PVC. He transmitted the passing of eras and their evolution to the materials, and then arrived at the use of light and aeronautical aluminum and a concept of dynamic spatial minimalism.
