Luciano Lutring Biography
Luciano Lutring was born in Milan in 1937 to an Italian mother and a Hungarian father. Since he was a boy he has demonstrated a rebellious personality, with a strong passion for women and social life. Despite the wishes of his parents, who saw him as a future violinist, Lutring decided to pursue a criminal career.
At the age of twenty he carried out his first robbery and from then on he began to carry out heists in various post offices, banks and luxury shops. Known as the "machine gun soloist" because he hid his submachine gun in a violin case, Lutring became known for his crime skills and a lifestyle that seemed straight out of adventure novels.
After a series of fugitives, he was wounded during a shootout with the French gendarmerie in 1965 and imprisoned at the Santé in Paris, where he began to write and paint. Thanks to his artistic activities and good conduct, he was pardoned by French President Georges Pompidou.
After being extradited to Italy, where he had been convicted in absentia, Lutring was imprisoned in Brescia prison. In 1977 he was pardoned again, this time by Italian President Giovanni Leone. Following his pardon, he moved to Formentera, where he remained until his death in 2013.
