Niccoló Machiavelli Biography
Niccolò Machiavelli was born on 3 May 1469 in Florence and from a young age he dedicated himself to reading and studying the classics, becoming passionate about politics. He began his social rise in the Florentine republic, following the fall of Girolamo Savonarola, first as secretary of the second chancellery and then as secretary of the Council of Ten. During his diplomatic career, Machiavelli was sent on several missions to the French court, the Holy See and the imperial court of Germany. Thanks to these experiences, Machiavelli's thought was shaped and by closely observing the decisions, attitudes and governing styles of the princes, he became increasingly closer to political doctrine. All this materialized in the writing of his treatises such as "The Prince", a work in clear contrast with the visions of the time, critical of the attitude of the rulers. According to Machiavelli, truth is based on experience and the cyclical nature of history, which is why he is a supporter of the study of the Classics, which represent the models to be imitated but also the paths not to be taken again. Machiavelli died on 21 June 1527 in Florence.
