Esther Mahlangu (1935 - ) was born in 1935 in South Africa and has been painting since she was 10 years old.

Mahlangu first gained international attention in 1989, at a French art exhibition entitled “Magiciens de la terre”.
In 2018 she received two honorary degrees, in 2019 she was named Officer of Arts and Letters, the highest French honor for contribution to the arts, the Department of Arts and Culture published a book in her honor and she received a United Nations prize in Johannesburg.
