Marina Abramović is one of the most important contemporary conceptual artists.
Born in Belgrade in 1946, after studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade and Zagreb, she began to use her body as an artistic tool, dedicating herself to performance art.
The turning point in his career was the meeting with Joseph Beuys.
Having met the artist Ulay, she moved to Amsterdam to live with him, giving rise to both an intense love relationship and an artistic partnership that lasted ten years. Together they created the "Relation Works" series and created the "Art Vital" poster.
In 1988, the two artists finally separated after walking 2,500 km along the Great Wall of China for the work “The Lovers”.
After the end of their relationship, Marina Abramović continued her career with performances all over the world, reaching her definitive consecration in New York, where she founded her home and meeting point for performance artists from all over the world.
Among Marina Abramović's most famous performances, "Rhythm 0" stands out, in which she remained immobile for six hours while spectators could do whatever they wanted with her, and "The Artist is Present", in which the performer sat at a table and spectators could sit in front of her to stare into her eyes.
