Teobaldo Mariotti Biography

Teobaldo Mariotti (1907 - 1981) was born in Verona in 1901 and died in Las Palmas in 1981. First, after graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, he came into contact with the Marinettian movement. He was among the founders of the Scaliger futurist group, to which he actively collaborated from the beginning, although he did not sign any of its manifestos. 1933 was the year of the debut on the national scene through three important exhibitions. In 1934 he was invited to Genoa on the occasion of the 1st exhibition of mural plastic for fascist construction. The metallic tapestry was the main attraction. He participated in three editions of the Venice Biennale (in 1934, 1936 and 1942). In 1935 he was invited to the II Quadrennial of art in Rome. Subsequently, at the beginning of the 1930s Teobaldo Mariotti began an unprecedented artistic production of small multi-material paintings which he called "glass". In his glass fusions (with the insertion of different types of metals) synthesis is pushed to the maximum. Simple contours set in the crystal give the figures of the subject an airy lightness, a truly rare dynamism and plasticity, a refined, futuristic elegance. Finally, once the Futurist season ended, his pictorial activity was characterized by a progressive "return to order", resolved in the choice of a figurative style.
