Antonello Matarazzo was born in Avellino in 1962, he is a painter, director and video artist who worked as a costume designer and assistant director at the Bellini Theater in Catania. Since 1990, he has focused on research in the field of visual arts, especially on the trend "Medialism", which refers to the integration of various media such as photography, painting, video etc. In 2000, he debuted with the short film "The Fable" (18th Bellaria Film Festival), produced by Fuori Orario (Raitre), and since then his videos have been selected in numerous Italian and international film festivals, including the Mostra Cinematografica of Venice, the Festival Cinéma Méditerranéen Montpellier, the Torino Film Festival, the Festival du Film sur l'Art of Montréal, the Festival des Cinémas Différents de Paris, the InVideo, the Festival del Cinema Locarno, etc. Some of these festivals have dedicated retrospectives to him, such as the Mostra Int.le del Nuovo Cinema in Pesaro, the Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata and the Festival Signes de Nuit in Paris. Matarazzo also makes music videos and documentaries of an artistic nature and directed a documentary, "Latta e Cafè" (4th Rome International Film Festival), produced for Filmauro by Luigi and Aurelio De Laurentiis, which recounts the experience by the Neapolitan sculptor and architect Riccardo Dalisi, proposing a singular vision of the Neapolitan territory. The core of his research is based on the equivocality between still image and movement, often giving micro-movements to photographic images through morphing and warping techniques.
His art is influenced by the exploration of the introspective and anthropological aspects of the human, as demonstrated by his works presented in the Venice Art Biennale in 2009 and 2011. This characteristic led him to be invited to show his works in various universities , including Brera, Roma 1, Chieti, Genoa, Salerno, Pisa and Cambridge, in seminars and workshops for educational purposes.
