Amedeo Merello Biography
Amedeo Merello (1890 - 1979) Appointed honorary academic of the Tiber Academy and "of the 500", of Rome; of the “International Institute of Arts and Letters” in Geneva, his works are found at the Gallery of Modern Art in Genoa and in numerous private collections in Liguria and other Italian cities. He was born in Genoa, in Castelletto, to a noble family, and soon began to take an interest in painting and drawing outside the educational institutions of the time, following the advice of his father and great-uncle, a master of engraving. Initially he dedicated himself to studio, academic painting, depicting religious subjects, figures and executing numerous drawings. He was later attracted to painting from life, by the majesty of nature, in the wake of a post-impressionist tradition that would accompany him throughout his artistic journey. His debut took place at the Promotrice Torinese in 1912, where he was present with two views of the port of Genoa (sketches), which were purchased. He regularly participates in the main exhibitions in Genoa, Turin and Savona. In 1915, at the Genoese Promotrice, his painting Winter Sadness was purchased by the Municipality. In 1912 he participated in the Official Exhibition of Fine Arts in Santiago de Chile by sending two works. His personal exhibitions are numerous: in Genoa Galleria Vitelli, 1929; Rotta Gallery 1931; Ranzini Gallery; Guidi Gallery; in Bergamo Permanent Gallery; The Cenacle Gallery. Since 1938 he has established his residence in the family holiday home in Fumeri (Mignanego), Genoa. A secluded and serene place, the artist takes refuge here in contact with nature, creating landscape paintings and also numerous still lifes.
